You need a good level of French for the theoretical test « le code ». For this test, you will have to answer questions (at least 40) based upon a situation shown with a photo and a paper with different possible answers. That's why you must understand French quite well, you must be able to read the questions. But you don't need to speak well.
You will be trained at the « auto école ».
When you obtain the « code », it's valid for 2 years. It means you must take the practical exam « conduite »
within 2 years, otherwise you must pass the « code » again. But once you obtain your full licence, you don't need to pass any other exam again, it's « lifelong valid ».
