In France, school (in fact it's not school it's « éducation ») is compulsory from 6 to 16.
You can teach your children yourself or register them to a « école publique » (public
school) or « école privée » (private school).
Children go to « école maternelle » from 3 to 6.
« école primaire" from 6 to 11,
« collège » from 11 to 15,
« lycée » from 15 to
18.
École publique is free. In reality it means :
free for « école maternelle » and « école primaire ». Then, « collège » is also free but you have to pay
for all the notebooks. And « lycée » you pay for the notebooks and books.
