Mascarpone is Italian but we also use it in France, especially to make tiramisu.
I'll give you the recipe soon because I have some mascarpone in my fridge so ....!!
Mascarpone is between crème fraîche épaisse and sour cream.
You'll find it "rayon frais" of your supermarket (refrigerated aisle), close to crème fraîche or fromage blanc.
You can easily recognize it because of its shape and colors :
