Quatre-quart


This one is an easy and famous cake in France. You only need a few ingredients. It can be used as an easy cake basis in which you can add all kinds of nuts, flavours or fruits.


Ingredients :

3 oeufs (eggs)

Sucre (sugar)

Farine (flour)

Beurre (butter)

1 sachet de levure chimique (yeast)




Preheat oven to 150°C.

Grease and flour a cake pan


I did not indicate quantities for most of the ingredients because « quatre quart » means « four quarters ».


So, the first thing you must do is weigh the eggs. Then use the same weight of sugar, flour and butter.


Sift the flour, baking powder, baking soda together

In a large bowl, beat together eggs, white sugar for about 1 minute.




Add melted butter gradually and continue beating for another 3-4 minutes, until the batter is thick and light colored. Gently mix in the flour mixture until just combined.




Pour batter into the prepared pan.




Bake in preheated oven for 30-40 or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. (Do not open the oven in the first 25 minutes.)

Let cool in pan for 10-15 minutes. Turn out onto a plate.




What is interesting with this cake is that if you want a bigger cake, just add one more egg, weigh and use the same weight of sugar, flour and butter.
