Sometimes you can see them with their "fanes", the green part. You won't cook the fanes, only the "carotte", but it indicates it's a "primeur" or "carotte nouvelle". Usually these carottes are smaller than the ordinary carottes.
When you want to buy "légumes primeurs", it's better to go to an open market. You won't always find some if you go to a supermarket.
