Préfecture & permis de conduire

Do I really need to go to the préfecture ?

You don't need to go to the préfecture, you can also send the papers “par correspondance”, by mail.

In both cases, check with your préfecture what you need (how much it costs, how many photos...).

In theory you should send / bring :

- you provisory licence,

- your passport or a copy of your passport.

If you have to pay a “taxe régionale”, check with the préfecture where you can get it (usually you buy a "timbre fiscal" a very expensive small piece of paper that looks like a stamp), at the “trésorerie” probably.
