When you go to the préfecture, go to the « accueil » and explain you come for a « carte de séjour » :
« Bonjour, je viens faire une demande de carte de séjour ».
They will give you the forms to fill in or tell you which « bureau » or « guichet » you must go to.
They might also give you a ticket and you'll have to wait (you should always bring a book when you go to the préfecture !).
You will have to translate the documents in foreign languages, but you must have them translated by a « traducteur interprète
agréé ». The préfecture will give you the indications concerning this person, it's an official translator.
